Water!
Today was a sunny day, and one could tell by the lines of cars at carwash, the double-staffed sunglasses kiosks, and the high number of cell phone calls and text messages sent out by movie theater ushers... Also, a large number of the population was out taking pictures today, with whatever they had in their hands. A girl at PandaLab was getting her medium-format prints back, and I got to take a peek at just how "light-tight" the Holga's really aren't. Then there was the girl on the street corner holding up an offering of a camera phone to the Sun God(s? - is there more than one?). And then there is me, lunking around my monster SLR and sweat-inducing 70-200mm, rattling off shots at skateboarders as I whiz by in the Camry, rolling the odometer past 272,500 miles (I really need to do a write up on how amazing this car is). But before I decided to be a "lens-slingin, burger-chompin', coffee-sippin', noodle-eating, automatic-transmission-drivin' maniac," I spent two hours +/- .340 (to 3 significant figures) walking the docks of Shilshole Marina, my to-be home in the Fall. It was splendid. Everyone has their own personality, look, pets, and hairdue - but they all look UP at you when you walk past, and mutual "G'day's" or "Howdy's" are exchanged with a nod or a smile. This puts me at home. Now, I will say, that I felt a bit out of place in the 36'-44' slips, as the people there seem to have fallen prey to the idea of status... They see (or at least I imagine that they do) that I am not one of them, that I am too young to be accepted into the "Co-op Of Cowardly Knowledgable Folks Arguing Cruising Edicite" Club. But this does not sadden me, as I really have no desire to suck up and fit into an image for the pure reason of "measuring up." So I took pictures of diving birds instead, and listened greatfully to the distant sound (which grew closer as I walked the docks) of a piper seemingly making an attempt to charm a...... sailboat. And "it was Good."

Gettin' 'er done!

- English homework finished (a day early, as it turns out)
- Pelican case re-organized : )
- Madre's LAX/SEA ticket purchased, finally!

Monday, ungh, monday....
Evil headache of death haunted me yet again today, so I took a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood contemplating school, life, love, and adventure. Above is a picture of me during a hike up to a place called Gothic Basin, up near Mount Vernon-ish. I hate physics and calculus - Spanish, English, and basically any other topic really have a lot of appeal right now. : )

-Will the 4Runner and Camry fit in the garage together: Yes, with a couple feet to spare.

A good productive day, but I must go find some quotes to integrate (no, not dx/dt intergration) into my essay - so too-ta-loo!

Patricia's PhotoShoot
Whee! I'm totally stoked about the eyeball shots, and the high hit ratio (keepers/not keepers)! But most of all, I'm glad to see that a backpack of lighting gear and a few flashes were all I needed to pull of this location shoot. The eye, back, and head shots were all taken in front of an elevator in the school gym (largest floorspace with lower ambient light), and the feet/hand shots were taken in a yoga room (although in hindsight I could have easily pulled it off in our first spot). So yay! I had fun, and I learned that doing the editing when the project is fresh (we wrapped at 1:50pm, and started just after 12:30pm). I started editing at 3:30pm, and 2.5hrs later I'm doing the full-resolution file conversion (buring ETA: 10 minutes). Sweet. Now I have to get Warren's photos on a disc, do an entire Physics lab write up (a group member decided it would be fun to say he'll do it, then bail on the due date), and write a full draft for an essay on Dexter. (Click to watch full episodes from Season 1)
So I'm off!
Cheers,
Danny

Argh....
I'm tired and should go to bed, but an alluring lens and a trixy grip have been toying with my patience for the last hour - and it must end. With fading visions of a road trip still tugging at my brain, I'm trying to divert my focus to something else. My 4runner didn't see any work today, but I did manage to spend a couple hours going through the big mess of tools, and I'd say I got 90% of it organized. Tomorrow Aimee is coming over for a photo session, and we're going to do some prep-work for a small project I'm shooting on Thursday afternoon - in addition to getting some pictures of our pimpin' Valentines Day outfits. I took my 2nd physics test today, covering projectile and centripital motion, in addition to work-energy and other Newtonian goodies - the test was evily long considering the time available, but I guess that's just life. No news on an incoming firewire 400 cord for downloading homevideos on to the computer, but the passenger window motor assembly for my Camry was mailed today, which is far overdue for replacement. The D70s hasn't gotten any better since returning home - my only guess is that it is as allergic to cats as I am. I've got it all bubble-wrapped for mailing off to Nikon (ungh, they take FOREVER to do repairs....), and as soon as I get the packing slip printed tomorrow I'll drop it off at UPS so that it is back in time for the AK season. Anywho, I'm punching out for now - it is too late to be up on a school night, and I have homework to do in the morning.
Cheers - Carpe Diem - Peace Yo,
Danny
PS - the photo is unrelated and taken a couple of winters ago while working in Baja - taken by Kevin Martin (click his name to see Kev's infrequently updated yet still impressive website... : )

Sony TRV330 Digital8 Camcorder
This is an ancient piece of equipment, but I'm going to try and get some play time with it regardless. I built a shake compensator/big huge weight to attach the camera to, purchased a used shotgun microphone, and threw on a gutter drain flange which will eventually get modified into a lens hood. I played with audio stuff tonight, but wasn't able to upload any of it because the trial program I was playing with doesn't allow you to save your files.....waaaahhaaaaa! I ordered a firewire 400 cable from ebay tonight (could take weeks to arrive from China), so eventually I'll get to putting some videos I make online.
Cheers, and goodnight,
Danny
It's snowing Cats 'n Dogs right now!
.....And I'm posting pictures that I recovered from the old family camcorder, of my first car (during the painting process) and me totally kicking ass in the 110m hurtles in high school (league champion). Funny, these are the full size images that this camera could put out, in 1999 (quite the resolution inprovement in 10 years, aye?).
