June 6th Trip, Juneau to Auke Bay, Alaska

This past week wasn't a mind-blowing photo op by any means, but I did find some free time to harass some critters and snap off a few shots. I made a desk this week that fits between my bunk in the bow and the chef's, so now I have a bit more of a comfortable workspace, including a remote USB extension that connects to my hardrives, card readers, etc. Tomorrow morning around 6:45am I'm heading over to the Safari Explorer to work for three weeks (I get to see my lady - whee!), and I'm excited to be working on a new boat. Anywho, I'm going to attempt to upload a "Top 5 Photos" for this past week, but with the sketch internet service we have on board, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work at all. Who knows!
From top to bottom:
Margerie Glacier
Coastal Brown Bear
Pigeon Guillemots
Dall's Porpoise
Dall's Porpoise, inhalation

Glacier Bay 2009, A Great Adventure

Yesterday my friend Christian and I arrived back from our 12 day trip on his sailboat Altair, and boy was it good! Good food, good company, good wildlife.....bla bla bla - it kicked ass. We spent 5 days in Glacier Bay National Park, and we did many manly things. We killed shrimp. We rolled rocks. We swore. And we talked about women. But all good things must find a time when they transform into something else, such as 98 days (14 weeks) of straight work on the Safari Spirit with no time off (it'll hurt a bit, but I'm sure I'll survive). I did get to see my lady while we were in Glacier Bay, and that was also very good. Anywho, the pictures you see above are all taken by me (for clarity, since Christian and I have swapped images), but for some more photos of our trip, check out his blog at http://cdlloyd.blogspot.com.

In order of appearance (non-human wildlife), from top to bottom:
Arctic Terns
Kittlitz's Murrelets
More Arctic Terns

Barn Swallow
Bald Eagle
Humpback Whale
Spotted Prawn (not shown: the 3 gallons we cooked and ate that morning)

Well, until next time: peace, love and lots of cash to you all!
